I found this beautiful picture a couple weeks ago that is now my blog header graphic. It is a picture of the Minneapolis Library (a beautiful building by the way). I love the outside-looking-in-reflecting-back-out look to it. I can’t decide if I love it because it is some sort of metaphor about how knowledge changes the way we see the outside world, or just a stunning picture. Probably a little of both.
The thing is, I want to give proper attribution to the picture because it is not MY skills on display there, but I cannot find the photo online now. So if anyone reading this can point me to the picture online, please do so and I will give all due credit to the photographer who took it. It was under a creative commons license.
And if you are out there, thank you whomever took this great picture.

Another short post, but an important one. I am a big fan of Connie Bensen, she is a terrific blog writer and a key resource on community management practices. I met Connie online via twitter, and it turns out she lives in Minnesota. She practices what she preaches both in terms of community management and social media.
Well, now Connie has put together a course on community management. If you are interested in this as a career, or if your company does community management, or is trying to figure out what that term means, I encourage you to go to her blog and check out the information.
Best of luck Connie, Minnesota is lucky to have you!

Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to go to the Baltimore / Washington D.C. area. I visited with a client for one day and then had a weekend with my oldest son Will for an event he was attending. As usual I was running late to get out of the house and get to the airport. How I miss the days where you could walk up ten minutes before the flight.
At the last minute I checked my tickets and realized that I was going to the Humphrey Terminal. For those of you unfamiliar with the Minneapolis Airport there are two different terminals; not gates, but actual different terminals. Having never been to the Humphrey Terminal I was starting to stress more. I put out a call for help on Twitter.

Within 15 minutes I had several answers from folks on Twitter who told me to relax and enjoy, that Humphrey was less crowded, shorter lines, and a nice coffee shop to boot (Dunn Bros I love you!) I could then relax and take my time.
Similarly that morning I sent a Facebook message to someone I never met face-to-face but worked with at my last job. I knew he was from the Baltimore area and I asked him for advice. He hooked me up fantastically. By the time I landed at BWI, I had my choice of restaurants and a couple ‘I’m only here for a little bit where can I visit’ sites.
During the trip my son and I went to Camden Yards to catch a game, but mainly to experience the stadium. From my twittering about that I had a great conversation with some guys on Twitter about baseball.
Could I have done the research on the web in order to find out about the Humphrey Terminal, places to go in Baltimore, and forums to talk baseball? Of course I could. But using the community got me the answers more quickly, and with a level of trust that my own research wouldn’t have been able to provide.
Coming tomorrow, my review of Baltimore and D.C.

It’s been a great summer so far here in Minnesota. I’ve been incredibly busy with work and family, and both are doing well. Lots of things to cover and I’m going to step up my writing on all THREE of my blogs: this one, the Gomoll blog, and the TexoDev blog.
I’ll go into my way back machine and post about some of the events I’ve attended. Most of you will have forgotten them already but it’s worth jotting down anyway.
Lots worth discussing on various topics too, how the business is going here as I continue to meet new people in MN, design thoughts on some recent projects, fun summer activities. So stay tuned for my own personal blogapalooza as I write more frequently.

I don’t typically do super short posts here (that’s why God invented Twitter) but for my friends that don’t have a Twitter account and may be looking for work, here is an excellent post on ways you might be sabotaging your own job search.
Happy job hunting!
