Announcing MyHomeSchoolPlan.com product launch
January 7, 2009
I am very excited to announce the launch of a new web-based application, MyHomeSchoolPlan.com.
The elevator pitch: MyHomeSchoolPlan.com makes it easy to create, record and review your homeschool activities. Allowing you to spend time with your kids, not your computer.
The longer explanation: When my wife Jennifer and I made the decision to homeschool two years ago, we were amazed at all the choices out there for finding curriculum for homeschooling. Frankly, we struggled more with too much choice rather than too little. But when it came time to getting organized and keeping track of everything, there were less choices, and none that suited our needs. To be sure, there are good options out there, they just weren’t for us. We wanted flexible, easy, and on the web. We wanted to create activities for all three kids, like a field trip, and not spend 10 minutes doing it.
So, the side project for TexoDev, my small company I co-founded with Dave Reid, was to build such an application. We’ve spent a fair bit of time on this while focusing on the paying work, and Jenn has been a terrific source of insight and inspiration as well.
Now it’s time to release it into the wild…in beta. To that end we are going to accept around 100 users in a beta period where the application is free to use. We want to make this the best product it can be, and with your help using it and giving us feedback, we’re confident we can.
We have big plans for future releases of the product, but at our core will always be making it as easy as possible organize your homeschool so you can focus on educating your children.

This is a long shot – but I was wondering what testing you use for homeschooling. I am a fellow Victorian and this was our first year embarking on the journey of homeschooling. Any help you might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks !!! Amy

Amy, I’ll contact offline to make sure I understand your question. I assume you mean the mandatory standardized testing that MN requires. Our oldest alternates between the SAT and ACT, our middle goes with the Explore test, and our youngest goes with the Peabody. For the Peabody, a certified instructor comes to our house and administers it.
